FREE SPEECH OR IS IT?

We observed some flyers up in the neighborhood that are entitled The Bicycle Taliban Are Here.  Although no one in our steering committee wrote or posted those flyers, we defend the right of those who did write them to post them.

Apparently Christine Culver, the executive director of the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, disagrees with the First Amendment when someone else's free speech doesn't match her own opinion.  She was seen on her bike at the circle on Humboldt and McConnell taping over those flyers with her own pro-Bike Blvd flyers.  On the city's signs, by the way.  When Kay Tokerud, SRNC, stopped to tell her that Culver was violating the law by putting flyers up on city signs, Culver shouted that she'd see Kay on Tuesday at the City Council meeting.

We're not surprised that it isn't a fair fight.  The question is why is it a fight at all?  Why does the City think that they can impose this dangerous situation on all of the users and residents of the area for an ideology?

Riding your bike is healthy, pleasant etc, but it's not a religion or a cult.  Why make it that?  We all like our bikes but this aggressive, strangely fanatical imposition of a dangerous situation is over the top.  Please come to the council meeting on Tuesday Sept 28 and exercise your first amendment right to free speech.

Thank you for your attendance at last night's Candidates Forum

We held a forum last night for Santa Rosa voters to meet the 'other' candidates for 7th District Assembly since Michael Allen, the Democratic candidate, has been reported to the FPPC for alleged conflict of interest violations.  Doris Gentry, Republican, and Kathryn Moore, Libertarian, answered questions from the moderator, Rosa Koire, SRNC, and the audience.  All came away favorably impressed by the knowledge and commitment of the candidates.

We have had over 25,000 visits to this website in the eight months it's been up, and appreciate your comments and requests for information.  The SRNC is committed to grassroots activism and providing assistance to you in having your voice heard on issues important to you.

Thank you.

Michael Allen's C Team

A friend sent us this copy of Lisa Maldonado's twitter account bio:
  • Name: Lisa Maldonado
  • Location: en la lucha
  • Bio: just your average labor boss, working for the revolution, all about the class struggle and waiting for the great leap forward.
She's in the fight (la lucha).  What is she fighting for?  Working for the revolution.  What revolution?  Class struggle?  Great Leap Forward (Chairman Mao of China's rallying cry).

Michael Allen really has the C-team here.  This sounds like communist rhetoric, and sadly, I'm not name-calling.  I don't have to.  She did it herself.  Revolution and Great Leap Forward---these are alarming statements, and her bulldog aggressive attacks on us are stunning from someone in the public domain.  What the heck is this?  I'd say it's high school play-acting but Maldonado is in a position of trust in the unions.  Is she in some fantasy land or does she know something we don't?

One guarantee:  She goes with Michael Allen to Sacramento.  Is this what you want?
